The National Liberation Heritage Institute of South Africa Trust (NaLHISA) is a non-profit organization founded on the principle of non-partisanship reflective of the victory over apartheid which was a result of combined efforts of various democratic forces in and out of South Africa.
NaLHISA, as an institute, aims to be:
- Inclusive of all liberation components and ideological persuasions as means to display the liberation heritage.
- An expression of all forms of resistance and resilience that encapsulate the march to freedom.
- A physical and symbolic representation of all facets of our society, such as gender, faith, age, colour, that characterise the struggle.
- A reconnection with the past, a constant celebration of our triumph and source of inspiration for the realisation of the aspirations of the majority nationally, in the continent and abroad.
- The influencer of thought leadership for future generations.

Mission:
We are an Institute that collates, digitally archives, tells and preserves the stories of ordinary South Africans as the liberate themselves from the oppression and exploitation. We partner and collaborate with like-minded individuals and organisations to pursue our shares values and aspirations.
The main objectives of NaLHISA are to:
- Ensure that research, reading material and artwork developed during the struggle for liberation remains under the guardianship and control of the archives of NaLHISA, legally and otherwise;
- Secure and administer funds for the administration of NaLHISA;
- Control, direct, and manage and maintain the national liberation archives;
- Strengthen the national liberation archives administratively, financially, and otherwise.

- The preservation of the rich history and heritage of the struggle for liberation against colonialism and apartheid in South Africa is a crucial building block for the realisation of a free, just and democratic society envisioned in the country’s Constitution.
- South Africa’s various liberation forces accumulated over the years valuable experience which needs to be collated and preserved to promote a deeper understanding of the inspirational and pioneering role of our forebearers in bringing about democratic transformation in our country.
