Professor Dr. Noureddine Yassaa currently serves as Secretary of State for Renewable Energy under the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy in Algeria. He oversees the implementation of Algeria's national plan for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green hydrogen development.
From 2019 to 2024, he held the position of Commissioner for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Prime Minister's Office, and previously directed the Centre for Renewable Energy Development (2012-2019).
Dr. Yassaa holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (2001) subsequently with the Institute for Atmospheric Pollution in Rome, Italy. From 2004 to 2008, he worked as research scientist at the Max-Planck Institute for Chemistry in Germany and then invited scientist at the same institute from 2008 to 2012.
Involved in a number of national, regional and international committees, Dr. Yassaa has been instrumental in positioning Algeria as a potential major player in renewable energy and green hydrogen production and advancing the country's energy transition strategy.
